Silent Waves

‘Silent waves’ was commissioned by ‘Stichting Vrienden van de Grote Kerk Schermerhorn’ and funded by ‘Victoriefonds’ and ‘Gemeente Alkmaar’.
It was premiered by Bart Klijnsmit on 11 October 2019 during the inauguration of the restored (by the firm Flentrop) Courtain organ.

When I first went to Schermerhorn it occured to me that the church was much too big for such a little village. When I entered the Grote Kerk (meaning Big Church) I also saw wooden ship models hanging from the ceiling. Henkje Koning told me that Schermerhorn was much bigger in the old days and that it was surrounded by water and had an open admittance to the sea. It was until 1600 that land was reclamed from the waters and the waves went silent.
