Digging for the gold
For: saxophone quartet and organ
When I start working on a new composition it usually takes me some days before I find something ( f.i. a melody, chord progression or rhythm) worthwhile to develop. Often it feels like I am ‘looking for the gold’. I thought about this when I had to find a name for this piece. The piece exists of three parts: 1. Allegro tempo with an optimistic feeling 2. Larghetto tempo with a sad feeling 3.Presto tempo with a exaltatic feeling. Why don’t I name the first part ‘Digging’ The second part ‘Where is the gold?’ and the third part ‘Finally found it’ I thought to myself? And so I did!
‘Digging for the gold’ was commissioned by the ‘Melisma Saxophone Quartet’ and funded by ‘Performing Arts Fund NL’.
It was premiered on 26 October 2018 in ‘Het Orgelpark’ - Amsterdam by the Melisma Saxophone Quartet and Aart Bergwerff-organ.
