Boardwalk

Boardwalk was commissioned by the NOVAM with authorization of the Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst. It is included in the repertory of ‘the division of honour’.
It is on the repertoire of Dutch, Belgium, German, Italian, Russian and American orchestras.

Summary
In the fast movements, Boardwalk combines minimal traits with “slapped” pop basses, to which tumbling folk-music elements are added later. In contrast, in the meditative second movement the initial polyphony changes into an impressionistic sound tapestry.
The title of the movements, which were added afterwards, are a striking illustration of the ways in which music can be experienced.
